Known for their packs, tents, sleeping bags, shelters and more (the list goes on) Kelty aims to create gear that gets people having fun outdoors. From backpacks to duffels and even a sling, Kelty claims to produce equipment that’s built to last for any adventure.

In this review, we’ll be taking a look at the Kelty Women’s Redwing 40. Although it might be given away in the name, we figured we might as well clarify that the Redwing is a 40-liter pack that’s been designed with women in mind. After testing this pack for over a month, we’re ready to let you know how it works for hiking up a mountain in Nepal and city-hopping across Europe.

To be blunt, if you’re looking for a dangle-free experience, this pack is not for you. On the other hand, if you’re searching for a pack with a comfortable harness system, lots of organization and quick access pockets, the Kelty Women’s Redwing 40 ticks all of those boxes. Even when this pack is at its heaviest and even over long distances, we’ve found it to be extremely comfortable. We really appreciate the thought that’s gone into creating this pack to fit a women’s body and the ease of access—it all comes together nicely, allowing for more streamlined adventures.

  1. I have the 32L version, and I LOVE it. I like the versatility of using it both for hiking and for travel, the organization is awesome, and it’s ridiculously comfortable, even when really heavy!

  2. Great review! I think the other con is being able to lock up the zippers. In this case you have to lock the stretchy materials which can be easily cut off vs other packs you can lock the metal parts of the zippers together. This is for backpacking considerations.
